ABOUT:

Returning home was never on my bingo card.

Neither was the bad break up I’m leaving behind.

Most unexpected of all: Joseph Chatham. Ten years younger than me and my brother-in-law’s younger brother.

He’s off limits and unbelievably sexy.

Joey is stunning, and cocky, and he makes me feel things I’ve never experienced. Things I’ll never admit to. Because we can never happen.

But he has plans for me, naughty plans, and he’s determined to make them happen. He doesn’t care about my arguments against getting together or all the reasons it’s wrong.

So when he proposes we just keep our relationship a secret, just between us, a rebound fling seems like exactly what I need. That is, until I realize it might not be a rebound at all, and in small towns…? Well, nothing stays a secret for long.

EXCERPT (from chapter two):

GRACE

Bang-bang-bang!

I startled awake at the explosion. When it came again, I realized it wasn’t something blowing up, but rather a vigorous knocking on my front door. It wasn’t morning already, was it?

My head rolled sideways on the blessedly soft pillow. Crap, it had only been a half hour since I’d basically face-planted into the mattress.

But there was the knocking again.

Make it stop! God, why me?

Groaning, I dragged myself from the blankets, intent on telling whoever it was to go away until tomorrow. Please, don’t let it be my sister. Especially don’t let it be her and the kids.

It wasn’t Hope.

Nope. Definitely not my sister.

I glared at a blue-eyed god, who waited on the stoop, his hat in his hands when I swung open the door. Man, he was built. But he was also about the age of Gigi the wonder-wench.

He swallowed visibly, bright red creeping into his face as he stared back at me. What? Oh…damn! Belatedly, I realized I only wore a tank and panties. Yep, I was that tired and out of it. And now, after less than forty-five minutes at home, I was standing half-naked in front of one of my parents’ workers.

Winning.

Geez.

At this rate, I’d need to move to Antarctica to escape my trail of humiliation. As my skin prickled in embarrassment, I decided to brazen it out. I was more covered than when I wore my bathing suit.

“Hi…?” I muttered, rubbing my fingers over the middle of my forehead. “Sorry, I was asleep. You needed something?”

Was he the one I’d glimpsed riding across the ridge? When I peeked around, I didn’t see a horse. Of course, he could have taken it to the barn and walked back here during the minuscule time I’d slept.

He didn’t answer, and I caught his blue-eyed stare sweeping over me again, stopping at my chest then drifting over the rest of me, his gaze almost a palpable touch on my bare legs, before rising again. I cleared my throat and lifted an eyebrow at him. His eyes widened. Quickly, he shifted his focus over my shoulder and away from my bra-less breasts. Thing was, I wasn’t all that offended by his hungry appraisal. God knew, Sidney hadn’t appreciated my looks in a while.

My visitor scrubbed his hand over his unruly brown hair, loose curls flopping over his brow. “Sorry, I didn’t realize you’d be in bed. I came over to offer help.” He nodded over his shoulder. “With unpacking your trailer.”

That was sweet. And unexpected.

I shook my head. “I’ve been driving for almost sixteen hours today and awake a lot longer than that. You think you could help me tomorrow?”

I wouldn’t say no to this hunky young guy ogling me some more while he helped me out. Some of my boxes were pretty heavy.

He smiled, revealing his gleaming smile, with one slightly crooked canine. Something about that just made him even more handsome. “Of course. I’d be happy to.”

“Maybe after lunch? If you’re not busy with, um, farm stuff.” Tomorrow might be Saturday, but my parents’ spread had a plethora of sectors where he might work, any day of the week.

“Sure. I’ll be here.”

I held out my hand. “I’m Grace, by the way.”

“I know,” he said, his fingers closing around mine while he shook. “I’m Joseph.”

I blinked at him, disoriented by the unexpected tingle that crept up my arm. The way he said his name indicated he expected me to know who he was. Joseph… Joseph… Joseph…

My head tilted as I studied him. Blue eyes, sun-streaked brown hair and chiseled bone structure that looked familiar. Really familiar.

“Chatham,” he added, a small smile curling his lips as he seemed to guess I was on the edge of recognition but not quite there.

My mouth dropped open. This time, it was my stare running over him

“Joey?” I practically yelled. “Howie’s little brother, Joey?”

Wow… He wasn’t so little anymore. Joey—no, Joseph—was an Adonis now.
